George J. Hill, MD, Professor Emeritus at the New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in surgical education.

Dr. Hill has been a professor emeritus since 1997, and continues to teach surgery as an adjunct of the Uniformed Services University, a service he has performed since 1989. He is also an honorary member of the medical school staff at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, and since 1999 has been a clinical professor of surgery with Icahn School of Medicine at Mouth Sinai. Dr. Hill calls his profession “the gift,” and discovered early that he had an aptitude for treating sick animals and patients, as well as the good fortune to be a good student. He acknowledges that he is well into his golden years, and takes life one day at a time. Dr. Hill is currently working on several books, and puts in something every day for them. His most recent work was “Quakers and Puritans: The Shoemaker, Warren, and Allied Families” in 2015, though he has several slated for publication.

A recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award, Dr. Hill has appeared in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World. He graduated from Yale University to earn a MD from Harvard University in 1957, and interned with New York Hospital. Dr. Hill trained with Harvard Medical School, where he later became a fellow, and served a residency with the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He taught with the University of Colorado and Marshall University before arriving at Rutgers, and served with the U.S. Navy for one year. Dr. Hill also holds the rank of captain with the medical corps of the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Dr. Hill has been recognized with numerous accolades and medals, including the 2013 David L. Cowen Award from the Medical History Society of New Jersey, a 2005 Distinguished Eagle Award from the Boy Scouts of America, and a 1993 Meritorious Service Medal from the U.S. Navy. He has been a leader in the classroom, clinic, and his civic community, holding the title of surgeon general of the National Order of the Blue and Gray and councilor general of the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America. Dr. Hill belongs to countless historical and medical societies, including the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, former president of the American Association for Cancer Education, and a historian of the Essex County Medical Society.
