Dr. Denardo assumed the role of staff invasive/interventional cardiologist at FirstHealth in 2017, along with a similar position with the Duke Clinical Research Institute. He has been a physician and educator in the Durham, North Carolina area for the past seven years, and has been working in the state since 1993. Dr. Denardo wanted to help people with medical problems using high technology, and has achieved success through hard work and being task oriented. He hopes to continue advancing cardiovascular programs to help impoverished communities in the rural South, where he grew up and where his mother lived for 91 years. He has appeared in the 64th edition of Who’s Who in America.

Born to B. Pat Denardo and Arlene Denardo, Dr. Denardo is an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied physics and applied mathematics. He earned a MD from the University of California, San Francisco in 1985, and interned with the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Denardo is best known as the originator of an exclusive antiplatelet therapy, without scheduled anticoagulation, during a non-emergency percutaneous advanced coronary intervention. He served a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases with the University of California, San Francisco, and was a fellow of the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation from 1992 to 1993. That year, he returned to the South to serve as co-director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at FirstHealth of the Carolinas and Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, a role he held until 2006.

Dr. Denardo’s name can be found in numerous professional journals, and as the invited editor for the American Journal of Cardiology. He received a 2009 to 2010 Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Florida, and was named a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Denardo has supported the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. He is the husband of Shirley Ann Cook, and the proud father of Stephanie Arlene, Sophia Dean, and Sabrina Lynn.
