David H. Neustadt, MD, Retired Physician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Rheumatology.

After 63 years of dedication to medicine and medical education, Dr. Neustadt is especially proud to have the Dr. David H. Neustadt Library at his alma mater, the University of Louisville, named in his honor. He taught as a clinical professor in medicine with the university from 1974 to 2013, and held positions there since returning to teach in 1963. Dr. Neustadt continues to be an adviser for the Network for Continuing Medical Education, as well as the president and chairman of the medical science committee with the Kentucky chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.

Born in Evansville, Indiana to Mose and Leah Neustadt, Dr. Neustadt studied with DePaul University and joined the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. After the war ended, he returned to DePaul and was able to earn a MD from the University of Louisville in 1950. Dr. Neustadt served as an intern with what was then the Morrisania City Hospital, and went on to a residency in internal medicine with Lenox Hill Hospital and Northwell Health. He was a National Institutes of Health trainee in rheumatic diseases, and also served a residency with Northwell in gastroenterology. In 1963, he returned to the University of Louisville, and served as chief of medicine and president of medical staff at the Jewish Hospital with KentuckyOne Health through much of the ‘60s. Dr. Neustadt also served s chief of the arthritis clinic at Louisville General Hospital from 1960 to 1976. He retired as a clinical professor in 2013.

Dr. Neustadt is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert and the recipient of a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award, as well as an Albert Marquis Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. He was selected for the pages of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Southwest and Who’s Who in the World. He co-edited and co-authored numerous arthritis medical works in the ‘70s, notably “Aspiration and Injection Therapy in Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Disorders” in 1972, and continues to contribute to the Spondyitis Association of America in an editorial and board capacity. Dr. Neustadt is the recipient of a 1997 Distinguished Rheumatologist Award from the American College of Rheumatology. He is a national trustee of the American Physicians Fellowship, and the proud father of Susan Miriam, Jeffrey Bruce, and Robert Alan alongside his wife, Carolyn Jacobson.
