Charlotte G. Neumann MD, MPH, Research Professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Medicine.

Dr. Neumann became involved in her profession through the influence of her husband, whom she met at Harvard. Her husband is a physician in public health with a focus on rural healthcare and family planning. Along with the encouragement of her sister, the faculty, and students, Dr. Neumann felt supported and guided to her chosen industry. She had always longed to be a doctor and is most proud of her meaningful research on the malnutrition of women and children in Africa. Dr. Neumann has been a research professor with the Fielding School at the University of California, Los Angeles since 2009.

An alumnus of Harvard, Dr. Neumann earned an MD in 1954 and further matriculated toward an MPH in 1960. Her focus abroad is in maternal and child health and nutrition in developing countries, while in the U.S. she works to remediate childhood obesity. Dr. Neumann is affiliated with the International Union for Nutrition Science, the African Nutrition Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her work is easily applied to health, wellness, and fitness as a whole.

Together with her husband, Dr. Neumann has conducted international work in public health efforts, notably with a research study in Africa and nutrition interventions for HIV drug-naïve mothers and children. At Fielding, she joins a team that offers millions of dollars in research grants for AIDS and substance abuse. The school cooperates with groups such as UNICEF to address public health concerns and improve awareness. The Fielding school offers the Drabkin/Neumann Global Public Health Field Experience Endowment for students to develop their own international experience in developing countries in the fields of family, child, and maternal health, as well as nutrition.
