Arthur B. Hodess, MD, Cardiologist at Brandywine Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Medicine.

Dr. Hodess has served as Chief of Cardiology and Director of Critical Care at Brandywine Hospital since 1990. His greatest professional gratification comes from treating critically ill patients in the intensive care unit, always with a unique philosophy of medical practice: “Close follow-up after initial diagnoses and treatment prevents further cardiac problems.” He has also been a member of the board of trustees of Brandywine Hospital since 2009. Dr. Hodess is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

Born in New York to Samuel and Dora Hodess, Dr. Hodess attended Boston University to earn a BA, magna cum laude in 1970, and completed an MD from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1974. He served an internship and residency with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and taught physiology with the university’s school of veterinary medicine. Dr. Hodess became a cardiology fellow of the university from 1977 to 1979, and served as a clinical associate of the school through 1981. He joined Brandywine in 1989, and has served in a variety of roles.

Dr. Hodess has contributed to numerous medical publications, and in his civic duty has supported the Beth Israel Congregation and the Chestnut Hollow Homeowners Association. He is a fellow of the clinical council of cardiology at the American Heart Association Inc., and a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Angiology. Dr. Hodess is also a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Cardiology Foundation, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society, and the honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He is the father of five sons. In his free time, Dr. Hodess enjoys music, tennis, fitness training, theater, and opera.
